Homemade Watermelon Lemonade made with fresh watermelon, zesty lemon juice, and simple syrup for a refreshing summer drink that everyone will love.
3½ cups water, divided
½ cup granulated sugar
½ medium-sized watermelon, cubed (approximately 6–7 cups)
½ cup fresh lemon juice (about 2–3 large lemons)
Ice cubes, for serving (optional)
Watermelon wedges, for garnish (optional)
Step 1: Make the Simple Syrup
In a small saucepan, combine ½ cup water and ½ cup granulated sugar.
Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring frequently, until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Remove from heat and allow the syrup to cool completely.
Step 2: Prepare the Watermelon Puree
Add the cubed watermelon to a blender.
Blend until completely smooth.
Pour the puree through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl or pitcher to remove any pulp or seeds.
Measure out 3 cups of watermelon puree.
Step 3: Mix the Lemonade
In a large pitcher, combine:
3 cups watermelon puree
Cooled simple syrup
Fresh lemon juice
Remaining 3 cups water
Stir gently until everything is well combined.
Step 4: Chill and Serve
Refrigerate the watermelon lemonade until thoroughly chilled.
Fill glasses with ice cubes.
Pour the lemonade over the ice.
Garnish with watermelon wedges if desired.
Serve immediately and enjoy.
Use ripe, sweet watermelon for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
Adjust the lemon juice to make the drink more tart or more mellow.
For a smoother texture, strain the watermelon puree twice.
Fresh mint leaves make a refreshing garnish.
Freeze watermelon cubes and use them instead of ice to prevent dilution.
Store refrigerated for up to 3 days and stir before serving.
