Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 34 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Beat softened butter with a mixer on medium speed until light and creamy, about 2–3 minutes.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time. Beat on low until incorporated, then on medium-high until fluffy.
  3. Mix in vanilla extract and salt (if using).
  4. Add cream or milk 1 tablespoon at a time, beating after each addition, until desired consistency is reached.
  5. Continue beating for another 2–3 minutes for extra fluffy frosting.

Notes

  • Use vanilla bean paste for more intense flavor and speckled appearance.
  • Add almond extract or lemon zest for a unique twist.
  • Substitute part of the butter with cream cheese for tangy flavor.
  • Mix in a tablespoon of cocoa powder for a chocolate version.
  • Add food coloring to match any party or holiday theme.
