Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries (sliced)
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp lemon zest or 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting or glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add lemon zest or juice if using.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry slightly and cut into 6–8 rectangles or squares.
  4. Place pastry pieces on the baking sheet and lightly score a smaller rectangle inside each to create a border.
  5. Spread a spoonful of cream cheese mixture inside each scored area and top with sliced strawberries.
  6. Brush pastry edges with beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze if desired before serving.

Notes

  • Use a mix of berries or add fruit jam for variation.
  • Chill puff pastry until pliable but still cold to prevent stickiness.
  • Reheat leftovers in a 300°F oven for 8–10 minutes to retain crispness.
  • Avoid microwaving to maintain pastry texture.
