Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • Optional: 1/2 cup shredded cheese, 1 tsp garlic powder, or 1 tbsp chopped herbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease or line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar if using.
  3. Add milk and oil to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Fold in optional add-ins like cheese, herbs, or spices if desired.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • For a savory twist, add rosemary, thyme, or shredded cheese.
  • For a slightly sweet version, add honey and cinnamon.
  • Use half whole wheat flour for a rustic loaf; adjust liquid slightly.
  • Make into muffins or rolls—bake 20–25 minutes.
  • Freeze in slices for quick toasting later.
