Ingredients

  • 1 can (15-16 oz) peaches in syrup (or equivalent fresh sliced peaches)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon or nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Pour the melted butter into the bottom of an 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and milk until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter over the melted butter without stirring.
  5. Spoon the peaches with syrup (if using canned) evenly over the batter—do not stir.
  6. Sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg if using.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and set.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving with ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

  • Do not stir the layers after adding them to the dish—this ensures the batter rises properly.
  • Use fresh peaches with a bit of added sugar and juice if desired.
  • Try other fruits like cherries, apples, or blackberries for variety.
  • Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the microwave or oven for best results.
