Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce or tamari (for gluten-free)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar or honey
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lime juice
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes
  • Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 46 soft hamburger buns or slider rolls

Instructions

  1. Heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and sauté until translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and ginger; cook 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in ground beef; cook until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add gochujang, soy sauce, brown sugar, and rice vinegar. Simmer 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning with more gochujang, soy, or sugar as needed.
  6. Spoon beef mixture onto toasted buns. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • Substitute ground pork or turkey for beef.
  • Mix in diced bell pepper or shredded carrot for added veggies.
  • Top with cheese or kimchi for extra flair.
  • Serve over rice or noodles for a deconstructed sloppy joe bowl.
  • Use bao buns for an Asian fusion twist.
