Ingredients

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry)
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In one bowl, mix cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. In another, beat the eggs.
  2. Dip each piece of chicken in the egg, then dredge in the flour mixture to coat well.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through. Set aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
  4. In a saucepan, whisk together honey, soy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  5. Add the cornstarch slurry and cook for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  6. Toss the fried chicken in the sauce until evenly coated.
  7. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs for extra juiciness.
  • For a lighter version, bake or air-fry the chicken instead of deep frying.
  • Add sriracha or red pepper flakes for heat.
  • Mix in steamed broccoli or snap peas for added veggies.
  • Store sauce and chicken separately when freezing to maintain crispiness.
