Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

Salt, to taste

Pepper, to taste

4 slices American cheese

1 cup roasted green chile, chopped

1 tsp salt (for chile mixture)

2 tsp garlic powder

Chopped onion

Lettuce

Tomato slices

Mustard

4 hamburger buns

Instructions

Form and Cook Patties
Divide ground beef into four ¼-lb patties and flatten to at least 4 inches in diameter. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Cook on a grill, stovetop skillet, or griddle over medium-high heat for about 3–4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.

Add Cheese
During the last minute of cooking, place one slice of American cheese on each patty and allow it to melt.

Prepare Green Chile Sauce
In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine chopped roasted green chile, 1 teaspoon salt, and garlic powder. Stir and warm for 3–5 minutes. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Assemble Burgers
Lightly toast hamburger buns if desired. Place cheeseburger patties on the bottom buns. Spoon warm green chile mixture over each patty. Top with chopped onion, lettuce, tomato, and mustard. Cover with top buns.

Serve Immediately
Enjoy while hot and juicy.

Notes

Use freshly roasted Hatch green chiles for authentic Southwestern flavor.

Toasting the buns adds texture and prevents sogginess.

Add crispy bacon or pepper jack cheese for extra flavor.

Serve with fries, onion rings, or a simple side salad.
