Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable or canola oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, and vanilla. Gradually mix into dry ingredients to form a smooth batter.
  4. Transfer batter to a piping bag or zip-top bag with the corner snipped.
  5. Pipe 3- to 5-inch strips of batter into the hot oil, frying a few at a time.
  6. Fry for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar while warm and serve immediately.
