This easy Dutch oven cheddar bread is golden and crusty on the outside with a soft, cheesy center. A simple homemade bread recipe that’s perfect as a side for soups, chili, or cozy family dinners.
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 ½ cups milk
2 tablespoons melted butter
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
In a separate bowl, combine the milk and melted butter.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently shape it into a ball.
Place the dough into a preheated Dutch oven lined with parchment paper. Cover with the lid.
Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the lid and bake an additional 15 minutes until golden brown and crusty.
Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
For extra flavor, add ½ teaspoon garlic powder or dried herbs.
Use sharp cheddar for a stronger cheesy taste.
Do not overmix to keep the bread tender.
Bread is done when it sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
