Ingredients

2 tablespoons butter

1 small onion, diced

1 small green bell pepper, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 pound lean ground beef

8 oz tomato sauce

¾ cup Dr Pepper

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

½ teaspoon kosher salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced onion and bell pepper; cook for about 10 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized.

Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Stir in ground beef, breaking into crumbles. Cook for 8–10 minutes until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat.

Add tomato sauce, Dr Pepper, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Serve warm on toasted hamburger buns.

Notes

Cook onions and peppers well for best texture and depth of flavor.

Drain beef to reduce grease and keep the mixture balanced.

Simmering allows the Dr Pepper to reduce and intensify in flavor.

Toast buns before serving for extra crunch.

Great for make-ahead meals—reheats well!
