Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples (Golden Delicious or Fuji), peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch wedges
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup apple juice or apple cider
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the apples into thick wedges.
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and cinnamon until smooth and bubbling.
  3. Add apple slices and toss to coat in the sauce.
  4. Pour in apple juice or cider and simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender but not mushy.
  5. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water, then stir into the skillet.
  6. Continue to cook until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy, about 2–3 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Add nutmeg or clove for extra spice.
  • Use Granny Smith apples for a tart twist—add more sugar to balance.
  • Replace part of the juice with cream for a richer sauce.
  • Stir in raisins or chopped pecans for added texture.
  • Serve warm, cold, or at room temperature—great with breakfast or dessert.
