Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup (or glucose syrup)
  • 2 tbsp unflavored gelatin
  • 1/4 cup cold water (for blooming gelatin)
  • 1 tbsp butter (optional)
  • 12 drops orange food coloring (optional)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar or granulated sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Grease or line a small square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, orange juice, orange zest, corn syrup, and water. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  3. Bloom gelatin in cold water, then stir it into the hot mixture until fully dissolved.
  4. Simmer the mixture, stirring often, until thickened and candy-like in consistency (about 20–30 minutes).
  5. Optionally stir in butter and food coloring for added smoothness and color.
  6. Pour the thickened mixture into the prepared pan and let it cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for about 2 hours until firm.
  7. Remove candy from the pan, cut into desired shapes, and roll in powdered or granulated sugar to prevent sticking.

Notes

  • Swap orange juice with tangerine or blood orange juice for variation.
  • Add a pinch of citric acid for a tangy, sour flavor.
  • Layer with lemon candy for a two-tone effect.
  • Dip in melted dark chocolate for a gourmet touch.
  • Use silicone molds for fun shapes.
