Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
  • Optional: 1/2 cup white chocolate chips or chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream butter and cream cheese until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Beat in granulated sugar and brown sugar until light in color. Add egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  5. Gradually stir in the flour mixture until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips and any optional mix-ins.
  7. Scoop dough (about 2 tablespoons per cookie) onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.

  9. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Chill dough before baking for thicker cookies.
  • Use room temperature butter and cream cheese for best texture.
  • Try topping with a pinch of sea salt before baking for contrast.
  • Store at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze dough balls for future baking.
  • Substitute gluten-free flour blend for a gluten-free version.
