Ingredients

  • 1 lb frozen or fresh-cut French fries
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (if using fresh-cut fries)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese blend)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder or paprika (optional)
  • Optional toppings:
  • 1/4 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 2 tbsp sliced jalapeños
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions
  • 2 tbsp sour cream or ranch dressing
  • Hot sauce or BBQ sauce, to drizzle

Instructions

  1. Cook fries according to package instructions or fry/bake fresh-cut potatoes until golden and crispy.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) if not already baking the fries.
  3. Spread cooked fries in a single layer on a baking sheet or oven-safe skillet.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder or paprika.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the fries and add heat-safe toppings like bacon or jalapeños.
  6. Return to oven and bake for 5–7 minutes, or until cheese is fully melted and bubbling.
  7. Remove from oven and top with green onions, sour cream, or ranch. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use pre-cooked or air-fried fries for convenience.
  • Swap in different cheeses or use homemade cheese sauce for extra creaminess.
  • Chili, taco meat, or salsa make great add-ons for a loaded version.
  • Reheat leftovers in oven or air fryer to restore crispiness.
