Ingredients

  • 1 package (2 sheets) puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 12 tbsp milk or cream (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon juice until smooth.
  3. Roll out puff pastry sheets slightly and cut into 8 squares or rectangles.
  4. Spoon the cream cheese mixture into the center of each square.
  5. Fold corners toward the center or twist edges as desired.
  6. Beat the egg and brush it over the pastry edges for golden color.
  7. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
  8. While danishes cool slightly, mix powdered sugar with milk or cream to form icing.
  9. Drizzle icing over warm danishes and let set before serving.

Notes

  • Add fruit preserves (raspberry, cherry, apricot) on top of cream cheese before baking for variation.
  • Mix cinnamon into cream cheese or top with apple slices for a fall twist.
  • Cut into smaller squares for mini danishes and reduce baking time.
  • Store at room temp for 2 days or refrigerate up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in oven or air fryer for best texture.
