Ingredients

2 slices of bread (sourdough or whole wheat)

1 egg

1 slice of cheese (cheddar or American)

1 tablespoon of butter

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt butter in it.

  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread.

  3. Place the slice of cheese between the unbuttered sides of the bread.

  4. Once the skillet is hot, place the sandwich in it, buttered side down. Grill for 3-4 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy.

  5. While the sandwich is grilling, cook the egg to your preference (sunny-side-up is recommended for a runny yolk).

  6. Once the sandwich is grilled to your liking, remove it from the skillet and set aside.

  7. Place the egg on top of one side of the sandwich, close it, and serve immediately.

Notes

Feel free to add sautéed vegetables, bacon, or avocado for extra flavor.

If you have leftover sandwiches, store them in an airtight container for up to a day, but they’re best fresh.

Reheat in a skillet over low heat to retain crispiness.
