Ingredients

  • 1 lb white fish fillets (tilapia, cod, mahi-mahi, or snapper)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 8 corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage or slaw mix
  • Lime wedges
  • Avocado slices (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Lime crema or sour cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the fish fillets dry and brush both sides lightly with olive oil.
  2. In a small bowl, mix paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
  3. Rub seasoning evenly on both sides of the fish.
  4. Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy pan over medium-high heat.
  5. Sear the fish for 2–3 minutes per side until blackened and cooked through.
  6. Let rest for 1 minute, then flake into large pieces.
  7. Warm the tortillas on the stove or in the oven.
  8. Assemble tacos with fish, cabbage slaw, avocado, cilantro, lime juice, and crema or sour cream as desired.
