Ingredients

  • 1 (15.25-ounce) box yellow or vanilla cake mix
  • 1 (21-ounce) can strawberry pie filling
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the strawberry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat together the cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  4. Spoon the cream cheese mixture over the strawberry filling and gently spread it with a spatula.
  5. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the cream cheese layer—do not mix.
  6. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the cake mix, covering as much of the surface as possible.
  7. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbly.
  8. Allow the cake to cool slightly before serving. It will set up more as it cools.

Notes

  • Try cherry or blueberry pie filling as a substitute for strawberry.
  • Use white or butter pecan cake mix for flavor variations.
  • Add dollops of strawberry jam or Nutella before the cake mix for added richness.
  • Serve warm for a gooey texture or chilled for a firmer, cheesecake-like consistency.
