Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 medium apple, peeled and finely diced
  • Optional: brown sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Cut in the cold butter with a pastry cutter or forks until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in diced apples gently to distribute evenly.
  5. Add milk or buttermilk and stir just until a soft dough forms.
  6. Turn dough onto a floured surface and pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
  7. Cut out biscuits with a 2.5-inch round cutter, reworking scraps as needed.
  8. Place biscuits on the baking sheet. Brush tops with milk or melted butter and sprinkle with brown sugar if desired.
  9. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and puffed.
  10. Cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith or sweet-tart Honeycrisp for best flavor and texture.
  • Do not overmix the dough—gentle handling keeps biscuits tender.
  • Customize with optional spices or a maple glaze for variation.
  • Reheat biscuits in the oven to restore flakiness.
  • Freeze baked biscuits for quick treats later.
