Ingredients

  • 2 apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Oil for frying
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk or cream
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and melted butter until smooth.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped apples.
  6. Using a spoon or small scoop, drop tablespoons of batter into the hot oil in batches.
  7. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Transfer fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Mix powdered sugar, milk/cream, and vanilla (if using) to make glaze.
  10. Dip fritters into glaze or drizzle it over them, letting excess run off before serving.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best flavor.
  • Try lemon zest or chopped nuts in the batter for extra flavor and texture.
  • Use apple cider instead of milk for a seasonal twist.
  • Store at room temperature for up to 2 days; avoid refrigerating.
