Ingredients

  • 6 mozzarella cheese sticks (string cheese), halved
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Cut mozzarella sticks in half and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mix of panko, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt.
  3. Coat each frozen cheese stick in flour, dip in egg, and roll in breadcrumb mixture. For extra crunch, repeat egg and breadcrumb coating.
  4. Place breaded sticks on a tray and freeze again for 20–30 minutes.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 390°F (200°C).
  6. Lightly spray mozzarella sticks with cooking spray and place in a single layer in air fryer basket.
  7. Cook for 6–8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and slightly oozing.
  8. Serve hot with marinara or preferred dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Freezing before air frying prevents cheese from leaking out prematurely.
  • Double coating creates a thicker, crunchier crust.
  • Use panko for best texture; regular breadcrumbs are an option but less crispy.
  • Try different cheeses like cheddar or pepper jack for variety.
  • Store leftovers in fridge up to 3 days; reheat in air fryer for best results.
