Ingredients

  • 2 slices white sandwich bread
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter (or jam, Nutella, etc.)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)
  • 12 tbsp butter or oil (for frying)
  • Sweetened condensed milk or syrup (for serving)
  • 1 pat of butter (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Spread peanut butter between two slices of bread to form a sandwich. Press gently.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and optional sugar.
  3. Dip the sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides thoroughly.
  4. Heat butter or oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Fry the sandwich for 2–3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove from pan, drain briefly on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot with a pat of butter and drizzle of condensed milk or syrup.

Notes

  • Try other fillings like kaya, red bean paste, or Nutella for variety.
  • For extra crunch, coat the sandwich lightly in breadcrumbs before frying.
  • Top with ice cream or powdered sugar for a dessert twist.
  • For a savory version, use ham and cheese instead of sweet fillings.
  • Best enjoyed fresh, but can be reheated in a toaster oven for a crisp texture.
