Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Optional toppings: cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, glaze, or sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients to form a soft dough.
  4. Roll out dough on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out donuts using a donut cutter or two round cutters.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry donuts in batches for 1–2 minutes per side or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. While still warm, coat with desired toppings like cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, or glaze.
