Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter (for frying)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Optional: 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  • Optional: 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, bread crumbs, eggs, milk, onion, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into thick, steak-like patties.
  3. Dredge each patty in flour to coat all sides.
  4. In a large skillet, heat oil or butter over medium heat. Fry patties until browned and cooked through, about 4–5 minutes per side.
  5. Remove patties and set aside. In the same skillet, whisk in 2 tablespoons of flour and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Gradually add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, whisking to prevent lumps. Add mushrooms if using.
  7. Return patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer for 15–20 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  8. Garnish with parsley before serving, if desired.

Notes

  • Chill patties for 15 minutes before cooking to help them hold shape.
  • Use ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Add a splash of cream to the gravy for richness.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.
  • Patties and gravy can be frozen separately and reheated later.
