Ingredients

  • 1 pack (12-count) Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk or half-and-half
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil for cooking
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh berries, whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping them connected.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Dip each section of rolls into the custard mixture briefly, letting it soak slightly.
  4. Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Place rolls cut-side down in the skillet and cook until golden, about 2–3 minutes.
  6. Flip and cook the other side until golden and heated through.
  7. Serve warm with your choice of toppings such as syrup, berries, or powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Use slightly stale rolls for better custard absorption.
  • Stuff with cream cheese or Nutella before dipping for a richer version.
  • Add orange zest to the custard for a citrusy twist.
  • To make dairy-free, substitute with almond or oat milk and use oil instead of butter.
  • Reheat in the oven or air fryer for best texture.
