This easy green chile cheese bread recipe is loaded with cheddar cheese, buttery flavor, and mild spicy green chiles. A quick baked bread idea perfect for snacks, brunch, or gatherings.
1 loaf French bread
½ cup softened butter
⅓ cup mayonnaise
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
4 ounces canned diced green chiles (including their juices)
Step 1: Prep & Preheat
Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C).
Line a baking sheet with foil or a silicone baking mat for easy cleanup.
Step 2: Mix the Spread
In a medium bowl, mix together the softened butter, mayonnaise, diced green chiles with their juices, and shredded cheddar cheese until fully combined.
Step 3: Slice & Spread
Slice the French bread loaf in half lengthwise.
Spread the chile-cheese mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
Place the bread halves cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 4: Bake & Broil
Bake at 500°F for 5 minutes until the cheese melts.
Switch the oven to broil and cook for 1–2 minutes, until the topping becomes bubbly and lightly golden. Watch closely to avoid burning.
Step 5: Slice & Serve
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
Slice into pieces and serve warm.
For extra spice, add jalapeños or crushed red pepper flakes.
