Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside—these French toast sticks are a fast, fun breakfast perfect for kids and adults alike.
4 slices thick bread (Texas toast or brioche)
2 large eggs
1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk as alternative)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Butter or oil for frying
Maple syrup (for serving)
Prepare Batter: In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Cut Bread: Slice each bread slice into thick sticks (3–4 per slice depending on thickness).
Dip Bread: Quickly dip each strip into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
Fry: Heat butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Fry the sticks for 2–3 minutes per side or until golden and crisp.
Serve: Plate warm and serve with maple syrup or dust with powdered sugar and cinnamon.
Use day-old bread for best texture and to avoid sogginess.
Freeze extra cooked sticks in a single layer; reheat in toaster or oven.
For added sweetness, roll warm sticks in cinnamon sugar after frying.
Great for dipping in fruit compote, yogurt, or nut butter.
