  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice (for serving)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until just combined.
  3. Form mixture into thick patties or oval steaks and place in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, milk, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  5. Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the hamburger steaks.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 15–20 minutes, until beef is fully cooked and gravy is bubbling.

Notes

  • Add sliced mushrooms to the gravy for extra depth.
  • Top patties with cheddar cheese in the last few minutes for a cheesy version.
  • Add ketchup or Dijon mustard to the beef mixture for tanginess.
  • Ground turkey or pork can be used as substitutes.
